Donald Trump’s quick and bold actions have upended not only US politics but the world order.
I remember having to spend time in my junior high school library. We had a paper due on Shakespeare. In order to complete it, I needed to read several works by experts on the Bard. As I sat there, I thought that it was an awful position that these authors had: their entire work and career was dependent on somebody else. Whereas Shakespeare wrote whatever came into his head or heart, the authors I read were completely dependent on his ideas for their work. I didn’t like the idea of having to be a follower of someone. You always had to wait for him to make the first move.
I was reminded of this experience as the Democrats and much of the world left adapt to any position that is diametrically opposed to the actions of Donald Trump and his new posse. Just a quick glance:
*Trump and Elon Musk want to perform a complete audit of the US government. The left is apoplectic over Trump doing exactly what he promised to do and what most Americans also want. The Democrats are shocked, shocked that Musk would use his brains and comrades to root out waste, fraud, and abuse from governmental departments that have not had an audit since Buffalo Bill was selling tickets to his Wild West shows. The Democrats are now opposed to Americans knowing how their tax dollars are spent. As we learn about millions spent on DEI and trans programs overseas, their position makes less and less sense.
*Donald Trump and his ICE/DHS people are ejecting violent foreign criminals and giving them free stays at Trump Plaza, Guantanamo. There are probably more than 20 million illegal aliens in the US. The authorities appear to make a priority of known criminals. Thousands have already been ejected and countries have been put on notice to take back their citizens. Democrats from coast to coast are taking pride at thwarting the efforts and keeping criminals close so that they can terrorize their citizens. The Democrats now officially support the presence of illegal aliens at the expense of the economic and personal safety of their own citizens.

*Donald Trump shocked the world with his Gaza proposal. Leftists, on cue, denounced it as a forced population transfer. The fact is that if Trump’s vision, or even a small part of it, were to be realized, Israel would have a safer southern border and those who left would have a better life. The left does not like either of these outcomes. No, the Gazans have to be kept in place to threaten Israel, and somehow somebody else has to pay for rebuilding their self-inflicted smashed homes and infrastructure.
The Democrats don’t have an original idea in their heads. They look at the headlines, see whatever Trump, Musk, JD Vance or other administration officials said or did, and adopt the opposite position. Donald Trump signed an executive order to finally get guys out of women’s and girls’ sports. A vast majority of Americans support such a move, as they see mediocre guys stealing women’s trophies and medals. Instead of either remaining quiet or begrudgingly saying that they were wrong but they were changing their ways, they doubled down to support people who have personal issues and represent a miniscule percentage of the American population. The Democrats are simply choosing to oppose the president, though his actions and policies are generally well-received by Americans across the board. The normal response of a political party that would want relevance in the future would be to recalibrate policy in order to grab some of Donald Trump’s more popular positions while still holding onto others that aren’t election killers. Instead of looking at Trump’s success in the last election, the Democrats are holding onto all of their poisonous positions and are taking their party to the deep. Good. They can look across the Atlantic at the Tories, who are now polling below Nigel Farage’s Reform Party.
The internal polarization in the US is being amplified worldwide. There are those politicians joining the Trump train: Netanyahu, Milie, and Meloni are three who stand out. And there are those who openly mock, denounce or repudiate Trump and his plans. The presidents of Panama and Colombia very quickly started singing new tunes when they originally said that they would go against the president’s positions. Canada also sent troops to the border in order to delay potentially devastating tariffs. One may not like Donald Trump or his policies, but there are few countries that are so insulated from US economic, political, and/or military influence that they can simply ignore or hold out against Donald Trump. Many countries in the world are dependent on US trade or use the dollar as the benchmark currency. Others rely on US military hardware or diplomatic support. President Trump is not afraid of using these pressure points to get what is best for the United States. Compare Joe Biden using his position as vice president to blackmail Ukraine for the benefit of his son and the money flowing from Burisma to the Biden family versus Donald Trump threatening NATO countries to up their military spending so as to make Europe safer and reduce pressure on the US to keep the continent safe. The US has always had leverage. Joe Biden either did not use it or used it solely for his benefit. Donald Trump is going around the globe and applying pressure in order to improve the US standing in the world.
Many years ago, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were flying T-38As. During a training mission, the lead pilot had a problem and lost control of his airplane. The highly-trained pilots followed him into the ground. The Democrats apparently wish to do something similar. Instead of learning from Kamala Harris’ failure and the unpopularity of their positions, the Democrats are doubling down and claiming that the American people do not want exactly what they want. Americans want a clean slate on the budget. They want those who stole or misdirected monies held accountable. They want safe streets. They want controlled borders, north and south. They want less drugs in their neighborhoods. They want their schools to teach students to succeed and not to be lefty drones. They want their daughters to win their races and not have to compete against the guy with the goatee and jockstrap. They want energy that is reliable and inexpensive. They want their kids to come home from school the same gender they had when they left in the morning. Americans know that the system used to work, and they want to go back to that winning formula.
The Democrats no longer have a single, powerful figure who can direct the party forward. Instead, they have their elderly branch that is on its way out, to be replaced by mindless ideologues. Americans want a fulfilled life in which they see a brighter future for their children. The Democrats have nothing to offer them on that score. Donald Trump has broken them and they can only support the opposite of whatever the president does.
