There's a lot of hysteria out there about whether or not school staff, such as teachers, should be able to carry guns. The people most upset about it, oddly enough, also tend to lionize teachers like they're paragons of virtue. Apparently, guns change all of that.
But there are reasons teachers need firearms, and not just because school shootings happen. Sometimes there are events just as terrifying, even if more limited in their focus.
For example, we have this situation that recently happened in Ohio:
According to court records obtained by WCPO, Tomas-Marcario entered Deer Park High School in Cincinnati on Friday and tried to kidnap a 14-year-old boy. After that, he went to Amity Elementary, another school in the district, and attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl.
A district spokesperson told WCPO that when the man entered the high school, it was learned he was not on the contract list. The school then called the child’s parent who said while she knew the man, the kids were not to go with him.
School administrators at the high school then alerted those at Amity Elementary since the teen had a sibling at the school.
Tomas-Marcario showed up at the elementary and was approached by the school security officer and administrative assistant. The school’s security officer then contacted police, who found out that Tomas-Marcario was intoxicated at the time, WCPO reported.
A loaded gun and open alcohol containers were found in Tomas-Marcario’s vehicle. WCPO reported that the gun had been reported stolen.
Now, this particular situation didn't turn violent, thankfully, but what would anyone at that school have been able to do if it had?
Tomas-Marcario was allegedly armed and was attempting to kidnap two different kids. It could easily have turned deadly and what would school staff have been able to do?

Thankfully, there was a school resource officer there, so that may have prevented bloodshed since the alleged bad guy was confronted by a cop – Cincinnati schools have had school resource officers since 1967 – but again, what could have happened?
Not every school has such officers. Other bad guys would have just shot him first, before the officer knew quite what was happening, and potentially killed others. There are tons of dangerous possibilities.
However, Ohio does provide for armed school staff, too.
That means anyone who decides to victimize kids on a school campus, then potentially get violent when confronted by authorities, has to consider whether or not there are teachers, administrators, and janitors who would light them up the moment they tried to get rowdy.
Children are, unfortunately, the target for far too many deranged individuals. Predators of all kinds prey upon kids, and some of them are more than willing to hurt those kids in various ways.
If teachers are so important and deserve all the accolades draped upon them by the left and the media, then let them carry guns. They've already undergone extensive background checks. They go through more when they buy a gun. Put a gun in their hands so when anything from a school shooting to an armed kidnapping is attempted, they can put the bad guy down once and for all.
