VIDEO: What Issue Should Republicans Discuss More?

Immigration. Federal Spending. National Security. Obamacare. These are the issues that seem to drive the Republican wheelhouse. But what other important topics are being pushed to the wayside amidst the current political debates?

Dr. Ben Carson told Townhall that one thing that the GOP doesn’t talk nearly enough about is investing in our fellow human beings:

“There are a lot of people in our society who are downtrodden; who have fallen into a dependent lifestyle. And we need to talk about how we can create a ladder to allow them to move out of that lifestyle into an area of independence.”

During the Iowa Freedom Summit, we asked leaders in the conservative realm what specific issue Republicans are letting fall through the cracks. The idea of empowering individuals surfaced repeatedly.

Conservatives just need to learn how to better communicate their values “in terms that land in people’s lives,” according to Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

“We know that everyone, for example, needs a helping hand. But we also know that people are getting trapped in a web of dependency that they cannot get out of, and that is disrespectful to the individual.

Every person has the capacity to live a life of dignity, and purpose, and meaning, and every person actually wants to—we’ve got to give them a chance.”

Watch our exclusive video below to hear from Carson, Fiorina, Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Arkansas), Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Rep. Rod Blum (R-Iowa):
