Monday marked the fourth anniversary of the events of January 6, which Democrats are still spreading lies about as they still act like it's the greatest tragedy in our nation's history. They tried going with such a narrative ahead of the 2024 election, which we know didn't work out, as Donald Trump will take office as president once more in less than two weeks.
Although the medical examiner revealed that Officer Brian Sicknick died of "natural causes" on January 7, 2021 after suffering strokes, Democrats were still posting lies to social media that law enforcement were killed at the U.S. Capitol. Many were hit with Community Notes for their troubles, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
"Four years ago, the electoral vote certification was interrupted by a violent mob. Police officers were injured and killed. Our democracy hung in the balance. I knew we had to do our duty and complete the count - and in the early hours of January 7th, we did," she posted.

But, as the Community Note reminded, "No officers were killed." Among the sources cited was a press release from the United States Capitol Police, "Medical Examiner Finds USCP Officer Brian Sicknick Died of Natural Causes."
Klobuchar isn't the only one in her party to hammer such a lie. President Joe Biden has made such claims, which even Factcheck.org corrected. Vice President Kamala Harris has also spread such lies, including when she was the party's nominee. This includes when she skipped the Al Smith dinner to benefit Catholic Charities last October to campaign in swing states, all of which she lost.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), who for the 118th Congress served as the Senate Majority Whip and chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee, had some particularly garbage takes.
On Monday, he posted and reposted four times about January 6 from his official account. A repost from Senate Judiciary Democrats highlighted Sicknick, as well as other officers who committed suicide months later.
"Five officers lost their lives because of January 6, 2021," the post claimed.

Another post from Durbin tied how January 6 is about certifying the presidential election to the events from 2021. "This same proceeding was disrupted by Trump-inspired thugs four years ago," the senator claimed. "We must agree: Violence has no place in a democracy, and a day like January 6, 2021, must never happen again."
Durbin conveniently left out how Trump urged over social media for people to be "peaceful."

I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is another downright shameful example when it comes to his garbage takes about and on January 6.
"Good morning. Don't take for granted how quiet the Capitol will be today," he posted on Monday morning. "It's because today in America, tragically, only one party respects elections. The other party uses and justifies violence to keep power," he continued, despite how Democrats don't respect election results when Republicans win, including but not limited to Trump and his 2016 win. "Had Harris won, today likely would have been another bloodbath," Murphy even claimed.
Later that day, he posted a video message with those same points while he was actually at the Capitol.
"Do not take that [quiet] for granted. Do not think our democracy is healthy. No, our democracy is in grave peril because one party still believes in using violence to achieve power," Murphy also claimed about our constitutional republic.

Then there's the Democrats' allies in the mainstream media. Matt has been covering this week how CNN reacted particularly noteworthy to the anniversary, especially Jim Acosta.
Acosta ranted and raved about Trump and also tried to defend former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), a fierce Trump foe who lost her primary by nearly 38 points against now Rep. Harriet Hageman in August 2022 and who campaigned for Harris.

On Monday morning, CNN also put out such a headline: "Four years after his supporters invaded the US Capitol, Trump is more powerful than ever." It was billed as "analysis" from Stephen Collinson.
From the start, such "analysis" came off as a particularly opinionated op-ed:
Late on a day of chaos and blood on January 6, 2021, it was unimaginable that Donald Trump — who summoned a mob to Washington and told the crowd to “fight like hell” — would get anywhere near the presidency again.
Yet on Monday, exactly four years after his supporters invaded the US Capitol, beat up police officers and interrupted the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory, Congress convened to again confirm another election.
The democracy that Trump tried to desecrate has enshrined his return to power.
A joint session of Congress to count the electoral votes from his November victory rekindled chilling memories of the horror and fear felt by anyone who was in the US Capitol four years ago.
The ceremonial process clearing the way for Trump’s swearing in as the 47th president in two weeks also highlighted an extraordinary moment in political history in a nation where Trump is more powerful and popular than he’s ever been. A plurality of voters decided that despite his egregious conduct four years ago, he was the best option to lead the country until January 2029.
January 6, 2025, marks the most stunning political comeback in US history, and ushers in a new administration that could feature the president-elect’s most extreme stress test of the Constitution so far.
It also underscores the Democratic Party’s failures in convincing voters that Trump represents a mortal threat to the country’s democracy and that they had the answers to Americans’ economic struggles and concerns over immigration.
Americans made a choice in November, and even though he conjured a day of infamy four years ago, they picked Trump.
From there, there's sections about claims to do with "whitewashing" the events of that day, the "horror of January 6," and praise for Democrats' reactions to how they didn't object to an election that a Republican won, though they of course have done so many times in the past. There's no mention of how Trump posted on social media for people to remain "peaceful."
In his daily takes for Monday, Cygnal's Brent Buchanan cited Collins' piece to note that "J6 doesn't matter to regular people."
"Normal Americans weren't turned away from Trump because of what some supporters did four years ago today. Those who still obsess over it have always hated Trump; they didn't go from 'the guy's ok' to 'he's the devil incarnate' because of J6. This is proven by Trump getting 3mil more votes in '24 than '20 while Harris got 6.3mil fewer than Biden," Buchanan further offered.
That evening's edition of "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip" also began by discussing how Trump's election victory was certified that day, with another Trump foe, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who recently admitted he's "probably closer to a Democrat now," was among those on the panel.
Scott Jennings offered an apt reminder after Kinzinger claimed in part that Trump "has been obsessing about January 6th and obsessing about retribution," and Van Jones brought up Trump's plan to pardon January 6 defendants.
"I don't know that it's necessarily out of bounds to look at those people if they were overcharged," Jennings said about some of the defendants, as he also issued some reminders about Harris herself and certifying the results.
"You know, on this Harris business, I think before we canonized St. Kamala here on the high holy day of January 6, let's remember the Electoral Count Reform Act of 2022 makes it perfectly clear that the vice president has nothing but purely ministerial duties on this day. She didn't actually certify the results of the election that's done by the voters," he continued, as Jones and host Abby Phillip tried to jump in, with Phillip even claiming that "nobody's trying to canonize her."
"Oh, they're not? I mean, she put out a video trying to canonize herself," he pointed out, incredulously.
Jennings moved on to congratulate Democrats, though, to Kinzinger's audible sighs and expressions of frustration that montarily interrupted Jennings. "This is the first election since 1988 that a Republican won and Democrats did not try to overturn the results on the floor of the Congress. So, congratulations, Democrats," he said.

Jennings wasn't the only one, though, with hard truths for Democrats and their narratives. On Monday morning, during "CNN News Central," Harry Enten highlighted how while a majority once thought Trump's role in January 6, 2021 made him ineligible for the presidency, in January 2021, that number "completely shifted" just a few years later.
Another drop was how fewer Americans thought he was "greatly responsible" for the events of that day from January 2021 to December 2023.
It goes further, though, as Enten highlighted. People just "didn't care as much." By 2024, just 5 percent, Enten emphasized, a poll from The New York Times showed that just 5 percent said the events of January 6, 2021 was their "biggest memory of Trump's term in office." This is also with a margin of error of 3.3 percent among registered voters.
Even more embarrassing, or, "extraordinary," as John Berman put it, is that Biden, when still running for reelection, hammered the point. Of course, Harris continued with it as well. But, as Enten continued to emphasize, it just "didn't matter."
Jan. 6 just didn't have the lasting impression many Dems hoped. Just 5% of voters say it's their #1 memory of Trump's 1st term.

Also, a much lower share now say (below 40%) say Trump holds a great deal of responsibility for the Capitol attack.
