Fake news isn’t just contained in the political news media. The world of sports journalism is also fraught with false narratives, and yes, there’s seldom any accountability for totally blown scoops. Let’s take the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who supposedly adopted a position of not wanting to go to the Trump White House to celebrate their win, much like the USA Women’s soccer team after they won the 2019 World Cup. Like in politics, "well-placed sources" said there would be no "Fly Eagles Fly" at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue if invited by Trump. Yeah, that was put through the shredder within 48 hours.
If invited, the Birds are going, and there’s no denying it. John Clark and Adam Schefter confirmed it yesterday. Sorry, libs, you lose again.
The shot:
According to “a well-placed insider,” discussions between #Eagles players and their front office resulted in a "massive no" when asked if they would accept an invitation to the White House to honor their Super Bowl Victory, per @TheSun. pic.twitter.com/WOSCa4ZQ3C

Update: The Eagles did not, in fact, say this and will be attending the White House

Re: The @Eagles visiting the White House, a team source texted me, “We would be honored to visit the White House. It’s one of the things we had looked forward to doing and we look forward to receiving the invitation.”

The NHL's Florida Panthers were already at the White House to commemorate their Stanley Cup win last season. They gifted Trump a golden hockey stick and an exceptional jersey.
