This week, Townhall covered how former Disney Channel star Selena Gomez filmed herself crying over President Donald Trump’s directive to deport illegal aliens from the United States.
Gomez shared this with over 422 million Instagram followers.
“I just want to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, they don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she said through tears.

Gomez received intense backlash for the post, including from President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan.
In her video, Gomez referred to Mexicans as “her people.” She is of Mexican descent but was born in the United States. Some have pointed out that Gomez lost her fluency in Spanish when she started school and began acting.

One Texas Republican Latina, Rep. Monica De La Cruz, had some harsh words for Gomez about her remarks.
“[Selena Gomez’s] crocodile tears aren’t for deportations—it's a PR stunt to distract [The Academy] from Hispanics HATING her movie,” De La Cruz claimed.
“I represent a 90% Mexican-American border community. Where was she when the cartels targeted our kids? It’s ALL fake—just like her TERRIBLE ‘film’!” she added.
De La Cruz shared this with an image of a headline about Gomez’s latest film, “Emilia Perez.” As Townhall covered, “Emilia Perez” and some of the cast won a slew of Golden Globe awards this month. The film’s lead is a so-called “transgender woman,” Karla Sofía Gascón. Gascón plays a Mexican drug lord who undergoes so-called “gender-affirming surgery.”

Reportedly, the film has racked up intense criticism, including from left-wing organizations like GLAAD.
