Last December, in what quickly became the most-watched congressional testimony in history, the heads of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and MIT couldn’t resolutely state that calling for genocide and mass violence against Jews would be considered a violation of harassment and bullying policies. All three women essentially said the context needs to be considered. It was a stunning moment that eventually resulted in then-UPenn president Liz Magill stepping down, and eventually Harvard’s Claudine Gay too following a separate and insurmountable plagiarism scandal. Gay further irked critics, however, when she remained as a Harvard faculty member, keeping her nearly $900,000 salary.
Now, Harvard is in the headlines once again, this time for bringing Magill on as a visiting senior fellow at the law school’s Center on the Legal Profession. She will also join the London School of Economics as a visiting professor, according to her updated CV, reported UPenn's student newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian.
Nine months after resigning, former Penn President Liz Magill is taking on research positions at Harvard University and the London School of Economics.
Magill is a fall 2024 visiting senior fellow at Harvard Law School’s Center on the Legal Profession and will be a visiting professor at the London School of Economics through 2027, according to her updated CV. A source close to the former Penn president told The Daily Pennsylvanian that Magill will not be teaching, and both opportunities are temporary, unpaid, and research focused. [...]
While she is not teaching any classes at Penn this semester, Magill is still a tenured professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, a position she has held since 2022. (The Daily Pennsylvanian)
Critics blasted Harvard for bringing on Magill:
BREAKING: Liz Magill, the former disgraced UPenn President, who couldn’t condemn the calls of genocide against Jews, has just been hired by Harvard. This is a slap in the face to Jewish students. She will join her friend Claudine Gay as two equally incompetent “scholars.” pic.twitter.com/lbGWkdBvyi

If Liz Magill left UPenn for not protecting any other minority, no Ivy League college would consider hiring her. But she only failed to protect the Jews, so Harvard hired her immediately.

I'm actually a little surprised that she wasn't named the next Dean of Harvard Law School. https://t.co/IRA7Px866l
