Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) activated the state's National Guard after rioters in Salt Lake City were seen flipping police cars.
We condemn violence and looting. I have activated the National Guard to help control the escalating situation in downtown Salt Lake City. I once again call on all who are protesting to do so peacefully.

Throughout the day, various officials have called for those wanting to protest to remain peaceful. Attorney General William Barr slammed groups like Antifa for taking over once-peaceful protests. President Trump also threatened to bring in the United States military if unrest continues.
