The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, by a vote of 237 to 187. The legislation provides a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens who were brought to the United States while they were young.
Every Democrat and seven Republicans voted in favor of the legislation, which now goes to the GOP-controlled Senate.
The White House has already said it would veto the legislation, should it pass the Senate.
Democrats took to Twitter to share their excitement about the bill's passage:

Thanks for stopping by & giving me this sash @CHIRLA! Going to try my best to wear it on the House floor when I vote YES on #HR6 (House rules are a little tricky).

Since 2016, #Dreamers and those eligible for Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure have been forced to live in fear of deportation. Today, I am voting to pass the #DreamAndPromise Act so that we can finally provide a path forward. #ProtectTheDream pic.twitter.com/bwFCYNUarH
