WESTMINSTER, United Kingdom – The British Parliament is debating a proposed ban on Donald Trump entering the UK. The debate is taking place under a scheme whereby British citizens can demand their representatives discuss a policy, it was brought before the House by a 570,000 strong epetition.
The debate is merely indicative and not binding on the government, but there are still fears it will offend ordinary Americans. Most of those present are from the Conservative Party which is opposed to the ban and the Scottish National Party (SNP) which is supportive. Ironically the SNP had appointed Trump to a position in the Scottish government before his presidential run.
Britain does not afford free speech to foreign nationals and regularly bans those it believes are coming to the country for the purpose of insulting its citizens. In recent years those banned have been almost all radical Muslims, but members of the Westboro Baptist Church are also on the list.
