This State Passed a Massive School Choice Measure

Last month, Townhall documented a slew of states that were working toward passing school choice measures.

President Donald Trump, an ardent school choice supporter, has encouraged states to pass these kinds of policies to empower parents to make the best educational decisions for their children.

Recently, one of these states passed a sweeping school measure.

According to KXAN, a Texas bill creates a $1 billion education savings account program for parents in the state.

Once Governor Greg Abbott signs the bill into law, the program will officially launch at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Abbott called the passage of the bill an “extraordinary victory.”

Of course, Democrats came out swinging against this legislation.

“Let’s be clear: SB 2 is not about ‘school choice.’ It’s about public subsidization of private schools’ choice,” a statement from the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus read. “It is a step backward for Texas, jeopardizing the very system that supports the overwhelming majority of our children and abandoning our constitutional responsibility to provide every child with a quality public education.”

President Trump reacted to the bill’s passage, stating that it was "a gigantic Victory for students and parents in the Great State of Texas!"
