Hochul Wants Parents to Mask Their Toddlers...and It's Not Because of COVID

With cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) on the rise, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is recommending parents once again put masks on their young children.

Similar to a common cold, RSV hits young children particularly hard "and it's really frightening," Hochul explained.

“Infants as young as six months old have been known to contract this. It’s hard to keep kids safe. You think about the fact that a year ago, before a year ago, a lot of kids were wearing masks in a daycare center or in schools and that did give them some level of protection,” she said during a new conference, ignoring data showing that cloth and surgical masks do little to block aerosols.

"We’re not mandating this but we're saying, parents you got other kids…and you got a baby at home, you really might just want to take these extra precautions," the Democrat added.

She argued masking has become a norm for children.

"By now, kids are more socialized to the idea of wearing masks, its not as strange to them, it’s not as like—what is this all about? There are a lot of really cute masks out there. I've seen a lot of them, so that’s something I'm really encouraging all parents to consider for their children."
