Connecticut Schools Ban Clown Costumes and Other 'Symbols of Terror'

Clowns can be frightening. So frightening that a Connecticut school district has deemed them a “symbol of terror” and banned dressing up like one during this year’s Halloween season.

The decision came after an Instagram account posted photos of creepy clowns that had threatening captions like “watch out” and “wait and see.”

Police are investigating the account.

"There is no question that whoever is promulgating this is making threats," New Haven’s school superintendent Garth Harries told the Associated Press. "We don't believe there is any credible threat of violence, but they are still making people uncomfortable."
