In Just One Week, Border Patrol Has Arrested Two Previously Deported Rapists

Over the course of one week, U.S. Border Patrol agents have apprehended two previously deported rapists as they tried to re-enter the country illegally.

"U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender Monday after he reentered the country illegally near Nogales. Tucson Sector agents apprehended the Honduran national Monday afternoon. Records checks revealed 30-year-old Elvin Javier Maldonado-Gomez had been convicted in Gwinnet County, Georgia, for statutory rape in 2013," U.S. Customs and Border Protection released on August 27, 2019. "He served five years in jail before being deported in January 2019. Maldonado-Gomez will be held in federal custody, facing immigration charges for the illegal re-entry of a previously deported felon."

Caught in the same sector, another man convicted of the sexual assault of a child was apprehended.

"U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender discovered among a group of illegal immigrants in eastern Arizona early Monday. Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents encountered the group of two men, one woman, and a juvenile while responding to a request for assistance from a Greenlee County Sheriff’s deputy near Clifton, Arizona," details about the arrest state. "Agents interviewing the group learned all five Mexican nationals were illegally present in the country. Records checks revealed one of the men, 32-year-old Zacarias Bautista-Emiliano, had an extensive criminal history in the United States. Bautista-Emiliano was found guilty in California of sexual crimes against a child in 2013. Due to extensive immigration violations, Bautista also had received a lifetime ban from entering the United States."
