McCain and Graham Want Ground Troops in Syria, President Trump Says No

Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain released a joint statement on Tuesday urging President Donald Trump to bolster ground efforts in Syria.

"As part of a broader strategy, we urge the President to take greater military action to achieve our objectives, including grounding the Syrian air force and establishing safe havens inside Syria to protect Syrians,” the statement reads.

“There will never be a diplomatic solution as long as Assad dominates the battlefield,” according to McCain, the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman, and Graham, who chairs an appropriations subcommittee.

However, President Trump declaratively said twice during an interview with the New York Post on Tuesday that "we’re not going into Syria.”

“Our big mission is getting rid of ISIS,” he said. But when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on the field of battle, "we had to hit him and hit him hard.”

While most conservatives and libertarians feared that President Trump was falling into the hands of the Washington, D.C. establishment, it appears as though the 59 missiles sent to Syria may have been a global strategic message transcending beyond the conflict in Syria.
