Antifa Called for a Counter-Protest in Miami. It Flopped.

Townhall Media/Julio Rosas

MIAMI, Fla. — The outside of the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. U.S. Courthouse was packed with media tents, reporters, Donald Trump supporters, and food vendors selling their products to the large crowd.

While Trump supporters started to show up in large numbers around 10:00 am, despite the heat, everyone was waiting to see what would happen at 2:00 pm. The reason why was that local Antifa cells had posted on social media asking counter-protesters to show up at that time.

They wanted to celebrate Trump's arrest, calling for a dance party in the streets.

On Twitter, they went as far as to brag about how small of a showing Trump supporters had when he arrived at his property in Doral.

When the clock reached 2:00 pm, there were less than six anti-Trump protesters. It took another hour for a few more people to show up, most of them were wearing masks. In total, there were maybe 12 counter-protesters who showed up.

It shows how far Miami-Dade County has shifted to the right Miami-Dade County in recent years. While there are still a lot of liberals in Miami, it speaks to how comfortable Republicans are to protest there as opposed to in New York City. Highlighting how many more conservatives were in attendance outside the federal courthouse, Planned Parenthood sent out staffers to collect donations. Almost every person they asked to donate money said no, sometimes empathically. One of the Planned Parenthood staffers told me they expected a bigger showing of counter-protesters.
