Former Federal Prosecutor: Of Course the Biden Administration Is Interfering in the Hunter Probe

AP Photo/Andrew Harnik, Pool

In case you missed it earlier in the week, reports have surfaced that an official at the Internal Revenue Service claims to have evidence proving 'improper handling' of the Justice Department's criminal investigation into the president's son, Hunter Biden.  This individual is reportedly seeking protected 'whistleblower' status in exchange for handing over the information.  It's unclear exactly what these materials may entail, and seeing documentation is important before leaping to any conclusions -- but on its face, if the administration is engaged in some sort of cover-up or using special treatment to shield a member of the president's immediate family from accountability, that would be an egregious abuse of power and a serious scandal.

Here's part of the Wall Street Journal's piece on the brewing controversy:

An IRS supervisor has told lawmakers he has information that suggests the Biden administration is improperly handling the criminal investigation into President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and is seeking whistleblower protections, according to people familiar with the matter.   A letter sent to Congress on Wednesday says a career Internal Revenue Service criminal supervisory special agent has information that would contradict sworn testimony by a “senior political appointee.” The supervisor also has information about a “failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case,” according to the letter. The supervisor has details that show “preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected,” according to the letter. The letter says the supervisor has been overseeing an “ongoing and sensitive investigation of a high-profile, controversial subject since early 2020,” which it doesn’t name. The investigation at issue is into the younger Mr. Biden, the people familiar with the matter said.

The full article, accessible here, reminds readers that "Hunter Biden is facing a criminal investigation related to his taxes and whether he made a false statement in connection with a gun purchase," and that "investigators have believed for months they had enough evidence to indict the younger Mr. Biden."  Longtime federal prosecutor and current conservative writer and commentator Andy McCarthy believes proof of politicized interference in this case is sitting right out in the open:

A lawyer for the whistleblower has reported that “preferential treatment and politics” have been “improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected.”  Of course, that has to be true. How else could Hunter Biden have been under investigation for so many years with no charges? The gun offenses are so straightforward that they’d take a competent investigator five days, not five years, to wrap into a prosecutable case. Some of the tax offenses, which stretch back seven years or more, are so undeniable that liens were placed on Hunter’s properties, and it has been widely reported that he borrowed millions of dollars from a crony to pay what he owed the government...The long-awaited though always obvious answer comes from the IRS whistleblower: Political interference from the Biden administration has prevented investigators from taking basic steps they would take in any similar situation where millions of dollars of foreign money had been paid in blatant efforts to influence a U.S. official...Investigators haven’t been able to look into possible money laundering offenses or failures to register under federal laws requiring disclosure of work done for foreign governments and interests.

McCarthy calls on the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee to dig into this further, publicly.  If and when we learn the identity of the would-be whistleblower and get a handle on the nature of the alleged evidence, will this become a major story?  Would the news media treat this whistleblower the same way it lionized the one who pointed the finger of impropriety at President Trump vis-a-vis Ukraine (an episode that also involved Hunter Biden, by the way)?  One never knows, but it's impossible to forget how most of the journo class handled the damaging laptop story, in the run up to an important election: They saluted the marching orders of the Biden campaign, falsely called the matter "Russian disinformation" (following the politicized lead of former intelligence community officials) and buried it.  This revelation, reported by National Review, is therefore entirely unsurprising:
Within days of the New York Post first breaking news of Hunter Biden’s laptop, Secretary of State Antony Blinken — then a senior official on Joe Biden’s campaign — reached out to a former CIA operative to collect signatures from senior American intelligence figures to discredit the story, according to recently declassified congressional testimony. Mike Morell, a former deputy director at the CIA and a signatory to the infamous letter, reportedly told the House Judiciary Committee in private sworn testimony that Blinken personally reached out to him to manufacture the letter to undermine the credibility of the Post’s reporting on the eve of the 2020 presidential election.

The political hit wasn't the New York Post's accurate reporting. The political hit was the collusion of the Democratic Party, the mainstream media, big tech companies, and former IC officials, to kill and censor a story that could have harmed the Democratic Party's electoral prospects. Having been traumatized by Hillary Clinton's costly scandal, that collection of progressives was not going to allow anything even remotely similar to happen again. So they cooked up "Russian disinformation" and crushed it. And it was coordinated by the campaign of the now-president, whose son's seriously alleged misconduct and potential crimes still remain unaddressed. Some elites within the aforementioned cabal dismissively frame Americans who are disturbed by an apparent two-tiered system of justice in this country as conspiratorial weirdos. At this point, what might actually be conspiratorial and weird is to believe that those insidious inequalities under the law don't exist.
