On Friday, President Trump unveiled the logo for Space Force, the sixth and newest branch of the United States Military. The president's unveiling of the new logo elicited some immediate feedback on Twitter, mostly commenting about how cool the new logo is and how similar it appears to the Starfleet Command logo in Gene Roddenberry's fictional Star Trek universe.

As some pointed out on Twitter, the logo used in Star Trek was in turn seemingly inspired by a NASA logo.

Many on Twitter simply found the logo to be "cool" and worried the new logo might be changed if critics complained too much about its similarity to the one used in Star Trek.

President Trump directed the Department of Defense to begin establishing Space Force as the sixth military branch of the armed forces in June of 2018. A White House statement said the president "knows that space is integral to our American way of life and economic prosperity, and is a vital domain for national defense."
