If you've paid any attention to politics over the last 40 years, you're aware of the left-wing superiority complex.  There’s simply no way you could miss it.  The idea that progressives are the rightful inheritors of the Earth, and that anyone who stands in their way is either evil or stupid, has become the defining position of the Democratic Party.

It’s this attitude that led to the portrayal of Ronald Reagan as a doddering old idiot. Never mind that he won the cold war, he was obviously a moron - incapable of understanding any situation more complex than one of his Bonzo movies.

Later, that same arrogance would form the underpinning of every attack leveled at a Clinton detractor. Legitimate disagreements over policy positions were irrelevant. Perjury was irrelevant. If you weren’t a die hard “friend of Bill,” you were clearly some sort of antiquated, hyper-pious, morality cop who was desperately looking for any excuse to legislate morality.

Barack Obama would turn sneering condescension into an art form, weaponizing it against anyone who would dare question his “cool genius” routine.  If you doubted his administration in any way, he and his media allies would shake their heads and chuckle.  If they were being generous, they’d admit you were trying. Unfortunately, your little mind simply wasn’t up to the task of understanding such superior ideology and strategy. If they weren’t feeling generous, you were simply branded a racist and ignored.

Then, Donald Trump came on the scene. At first, he was looked upon as joke, an unserious gimmick candidate like Pat Paulsen.  The left thought it was hilarious, and even promoted his candidacy, right up until the moment they realized how badly things had backfired. Once Trump crossed the political Rubicon and became a genuine threat, they ramped up their derision to a fever-pitch.

The embodiment of their fury was, and remains, Hillary Clinton.

Like Michael Moore, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart, she viewed anyone with the audacity to question her progressive superiority as a base irritant. They were to be mocked, ridiculed, despised, and discarded, not reasoned with.  A boot does not debate with the ant it’s about to crush, and Hillary had no interest in legitimizing the sea of nattering nabobs who toiled away in flyover country.

Unlike previous Democrat politicians, who knew that you had to at least pretend to care what red-staters believed, Hillary decided to let them know exactly what she thought of them. To her, middle-America was nothing more than a morass of “deplorable” Bible thumpers. These uneducated bigots had a choice: Either change their religious, moral, and political beliefs, or become roadkill on her political highway.

We all know how that plan worked out. …And yet, she still hasn’t abandoned it. If anything, her initial scorn has been augmented by the bitterness of knowing that her life’s goal was destroyed by a guy like Donald J. Trump.

These days, whenever she opens her mouth, something ugly flops out.

Who can forget her now-infamous appearance in India last March?  During a Q&A she told a foreign audience that those who failed to vote for her “didn't like black people getting rights,” or didn’t “like women, you know, getting jobs."

She went on to portray her supporters as Avatars of the bright new future we could have had - if only we were smart enough to embrace her. As she put it,“I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product. So, I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. And his whole campaign - Make America Great Again - was looking backwards."

Lest we labor under the delusion that this was just a one-off moment, she re-emerged earlier this week.  Once again, she decided to let us know just how much she hates the people who refused to make her commander in chief.

At a time when Republican Senators like Rand Paul are openly voicing concerned about possible assassination attempts, just over a year from the attempted mass murder of the GOP congressional baseball team, Hillary Clinton actually called for less civility. The GOP, she believes, is an “ideological party that is driven by the lust for power” and Democrats have been playing too nice.

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about," she said. "That's why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and or the Senate, that's when civility can start again."

In other words, civility is being held hostage. The only way to get it back is to give Hillary Clinton and her leftist allies the power they were denied in 2016.There’s no acceptance of loss, no reflection about her own failings, and no acknowledgement of her disastrous miscalculations.

There is only bitter rage and the certainty that, whether you’re smart enough to see it or not, she knows what’s best for you.

In 2016, this nation dodged a bullet.

Perhaps we should be grateful for the reminder.
