No One Cares About 60 Minutes Report on Illegal Immigrants

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Officially, the Trump administration has said its focus on deportations is on those illegal immigrants who commit additional criminal acts on American soil. That makes a lot of sense, too, because with so many here now, getting the worst of the worst out before any other is just logical. The rest will have to be deported too, but the focus right now should be on making sure we're as safe as possible.

But 60 Minutes says they can't find criminal records for a lot of those deported to El Salvador. The big news, though?

Nobody cares.

See, the truth of the matter is that even if these weren't hardened criminals committing illegal activities on American soil, they're still illegal immigrants. No one actually cares if they get deported now or later.

More importantly, though, this is 60 Minutes.

Sure, it was once the gold standard of journalism, but now it's better known for its hyperpartisanship.

They never reported on the thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants flooding the border during the Biden administration. They never bothered to report on how Biden's cognitive abilities were deteriorating during his presidency, something that's now showing up in all of the tell-all books. They didn't report on the Hunter Biden laptop story or even the silencing of the New York Post on social media for running it.

They did, however, horrifically edit their interview with Kamala Harris to make her seem less idiotic, though, so that's something.

Credibility is one of those things that, once lost, can take a lifetime to get back, and mainstream media entities like 60 Minutes haven't even started trying to earn it back.

They just want you to accept what they're saying at face value, and there's absolutely no reason to trust them. They've done nothing but betray any trust they still had with the American people. They ignored important stories, marginalized others, tried to outright lie to the American public about a presidential candidate who couldn't string together a coherent sentence if her life depended on it, and now they think we should just trust them?

Especially when there's no reason to believe they somehow have better sources than the United States Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. I'm not saying they can't get things wrong because, well, to err is human but to really screw up, you need the government involved.

But just because 60 Minutes can't find records is meaningless to most Americans.

As it stands, the media has tried this stuff for weeks. They've presented every illegal immigration sob story they could, framing everyone as innocent people just caught up in the machine and not anyone to be concerned about.

Yet, as the Daily Mail reported recently, Trump's approval rating is at 53 percent, which was a four-point increase in just a week.

The American people like seeing someone step in and start addressing the border, and if 60 Minutes thinks they can change that simply because they couldn't find records that many people don't give a flying flip about, well, they're more out of touch than I thought.

And considering the crap they've run and thought they were making a point on, that's really saying something.
