As I write this, it’s Thanksgiving Day or Thursday in Thailand. Obviously, the Thai people don’t celebrate the American Thanksgiving holiday, though, given the fact numerous American retirees are living here, the Thai restaurants aren’t above making a buck by offering “Thanksgiving dinners” for exorbitant prices to the rich, American suckers who must have their bit of turkey. Rich, I’m not, so I’ll stay away from those places and maybe fast today. That’s a good thing to do occasionally. No turkey or pig should feel threatened by me today.
But on Thanksgiving Day, our founders set it up as a reminder that we Americans have many things for which we should be thankful. Let me list just a few for which I am personally grateful.
1. The God in heaven from whom all blessings flow. I’ve stumbled and bumbled my way into my 71st year of life now, and I thank God every day for watching over me, protecting me, and providing the necessities I need to exist. Thanksgiving Day started in American history as a day to be thankful to God, and it should be. One of America’s greatest crimes is to have forgotten that. We’re more concerned about the price of turkey, who wins the football games, and the idiotic politics of our dumb Democratic Party uncle. Look up America for once, and don’t forget that we wouldn’t have any of this if the Lord weren’t merciful to us.
I’m not as rich as some people, yet I am richer than others. But I really don’t care. At 70, I’m not on this earth for too many more years, and I’ve never seen a U-Haul truck at a funeral. I’m not going to take any of this earthly junk with me when I die. I thank God that He has given me the opportunity for eternal life; whether I take that opportunity or not is entirely up to me. But I’m thankful I have it. I’m going to try to seize it. By his grace. A thing I am also very, very thankful for because I need it so much.
2. I’m thankful for two good parents who gave me some common sense while growing up and set me on a proper path in life. They gave me discipline, educated me, and taught me to honor the God I mentioned above. They let me make mistakes, yet choose my own path to construct my own way on this earth. They were the “government” of my life. They provided the framework, the teaching about God and virtue, they taught me the principles of success, and while again, I never got “rich,” I’ve never had one day of starvation. And that is wholly because I had a perfect father and mother who taught me to be smart enough to listen to wisdom. I feel sorry for those children who don’t have such parents, and I am incensed at what the Democratic Party and the Left are doing to the nuclear family—destroying it so that too many children don’t have the opportunity to have a good father and mother like I had. This might be the most despicable, heinous, disgusting crime the Left is committing today. I am NOT thankful for the Left and Democratic Party, and I AM thankful that my parents taught me good, sound, conservative religious and political values. Sadly, my brother and sister didn’t listen to them, but I did. And I’m thankful I did. And more than that, I’m thankful my parents taught me those truths.

3. I’m thankful for America, the America the Founding Fathers established, not the one the Left is trying to create. The America the Founders established gave me the right and protection to pursue the virtuous lifestyle I needed to seek to succeed. It rewarded my hard work and efforts. And it never hindered me from accomplishing what I wanted to achieve. Any of my failures were not America’s fault; they were mine, and mine alone, and they only happened when I didn’t listen to the God above and my parents and failed to take advantage of the opportunities America laid before me. America gave me freedom.
I’m thankful for America because I lived in communist China for ten years. Time and time and time again, the government of that country prevented me from doing what America allowed me to do—pursue the goals I wished to pursue. When a Chinese thief for whom I worked stole thousands of dollars from me, and I took him to court to try to get my money back, the Chinese government decided in his favor, and I got nothing. Pardon me if I’m not thankful for the Chinese government.
And understand that the Chinese government is one reason I write for Townhall and my substacks—I see, in the Left and the Democratic Party, the very same things I saw in the Chinese government. I want to do everything I can to prevent that horrible, totalitarian, despicable type of government from conquering America and robbing my fellow citizens of the opportunities our Founding Fathers gave me and every other American. I am NOT thankful for the liars in America who try to convince so many that they can’t succeed in the United States and that the system is set against them. No, it’s not. You can make it in America, like I did, if you do what I did—listen to God, listen to wise parents, persevere, work hard, and overcome the obstacles that everybody faces in life at times. Quit listening to the power-hungry, oppressive frauds. Be thankful for America.
There is much to be thankful for if we only take the time to reflect and look up.
