Some years are pretty easy to be thankful for – when things are going well, the country is thriving and people are better off than they were the year before. Then there are years like 2021, when the reasons to be thankful are harder, if not impossible, to find.
Joe Biden has been an unmitigated disaster. Has there been a president of the United States who’s racked up more failures, obvious failures, in their first year than the sniffy, grope-loving creep with the crack addicted son who somehow manages to make millions of dollars in spite of his problems? The Biden family must be particularly thankful for him, or at least his not having overdosed since no one else named Biden seems competent enough to pull off the scams he’s managed in order to keep the family wealthy.
But as president, he’s horrible. Seemingly unaware of his surroundings or purpose in most appearances, he’s the only person I’ve ever seen read a teleprompter like it’s the first time he’s not only seen that text that day, but it’s the first time he’s seen those words in his life. He confuses volume with emotion. Like fellow insincere grifter Hillary Clinton, he thinks if he yells or whispers, people will think he’s being honest. But a lie is a lie, no matter its volume.
It’s not just Biden’s lack of volume control that is the problem, it’s everything else too. If you set out to destroy a country, it’s unclear what you’d do differently from Biden’s actions. Joe is old enough to have seen the devastating impact of inflation and the causes behind it, yet he’s doing every single one of them. The only thing working hard under the Biden administration is the government printing presses at the Treasury Department and that clock in New York that counts our national debt.
Has any president ever assembled a cabinet less qualified for the positions they hold? Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, former governor of Michigan, has no background in energy. This week she made a fool of herself when she couldn’t answer a basic question about how much oil our country consumes on a daily basis when announcing the release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. If you’re “addressing a problem” shouldn’t you know the extent to which your actions are supposedly going to do just that?

Granholm, appointed because she’s been a loyal Democrat hack for years on TV and because she’s a woman, would’ve made a little sense at Transportation since she was governor of Michigan, but that job inexpiably went to the failed former Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg. He might be the only person who brought less knowledge to his Cabinet post than Granholm. His position is crucial to the supply chain, so if you’ve seen any empty shelves lately you know who to thank.
Normally, the secretaries of Transportation and Energy are irrelevant. Not that they don’t have important things to do, but they’re largely on autopilot – just keep doing what’s been done and everything will work the way it’s always worked. But thanks to Biden’s incompetence in handling the pandemic and the economy, those posts matter more than they have in generations, and they’re run by idiots who have no idea what they’re supposed to be doing.
Politics is all about rewarding friends with patronage jobs, but they need to be able to do the basics of the job. Biden’s picks are clueless and have instincts that make things significantly worse.
There’s one more Cabinet post that could be worse, but thankfully hasn’t been a large scale issue (yet), and that’s Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra. Becerra has no background in health care or health policy, he was a former back bench member of Congress from California where he’d been serving as Attorney General. Now he’s making decisions that will impact your relationship with your doctor. Feeling comfortable about that?
This was supposed to be a column about things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, but as long as these clowns are in power, and as long as they continue to make the same mistakes history has shown us are disastrous thinking that somehow the outcome will be different because THEY are in change, there isn’t a whole lot to be thankful for on the national government front. I hope your life is in much better shape than our federal government. Unless you’re currently on fire, I’m not sure how it could be any worse.
Enjoy the turkey and your family, and as someone born and raised in Michigan, sorry about the Detroit Lions. Happy Thanksgiving, and get ready for the most important political fight in our country’s history next year.
