Impeachment Has Jumped the Shark

Impeachment has jumped the shark — now that the American people have seen the truth about the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, they are rejecting the Democrat Party’s fictional Ukraine narrative.

According to a recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs poll, 59 percent of Americans believe that President Trump’s Interactions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were not illegal, with 30 percent of respondents going so far as to say there was “nothing wrong” with the phone call between the two leaders.

The AP poll, however, isn’t the only sign that people are tuning out of the impeachment show Democrats launched on Inauguration Day 2017. Several other reputable surveys have also found that voters have lost their appetite for the Democrat-led impeachment effort.

A recent poll from The New York Times Upshot/Siena College, for example, concluded that 53 percent of voters in the crucial battleground states of Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona don’t want Congress to impeach the president. Another recent survey from Marquette Law backed up that result, finding that 51 percent of Wisconsin voters oppose impeachment.

When ratings get that low, that means it’s time to cancel The Impeachment Hour with Nancy Pelosi and fill its time slot with something people actually want to watch (approving the USMCA, passing an infrastructure funding bill, and reducing prescription drug prices would all be good options).

The steady evaporation of public support for impeachment doesn’t bode well for the Democrats, who gambled the 2020 elections on the hope that they could cultivate bipartisan support for the effort. As the American people continue to witness the biased manner in which Democrats are handling the impeachment "inquiry," they are growing more and more skeptical about the ongoing campaign to oust President Trump.

Of course, the voters are also picking up on the clear contrast with how Donald Trump is navigating the impeachment process. Whereas the Democrats have done everything in their power to conduct the proceedings in secret, and tightly managed whatever information they have made public, the White House has been perfectly transparent with the American people from Day 1, even volunteering to release the full transcript of the bilateral phone conversation between President Trump and President Zelensky before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of an “impeachment inquiry.” Donald Trump even encourages voters to read the transcript for themselves whenever the Democrats try to spin the story.

Remarkably, the president’s dedication to transparency doesn’t end there. While the Democrats continue to devise new ways to prevent the Republicans from participating in fair hearings in the House, Donald Trump recently announced that he would be willing to release the transcript of yet another phone call with his Ukranian counterpart.

“I have a second call, which nobody knew about, and I guess they want that call to be produced as well,” President Trump said during recent comments to the press. “So I had a second call, which actually I believe came before that call. If they want it, I’ll give it to them. I haven’t seen it recently. I understand they’d like it. I have no problem giving it to them.”

As we start the public hearings this week, it will be notable for the lack of witnesses called by the Republicans, as well as the chance for President Trump’s counsel to cross-examine any witnesses — a clear violation of basic due process standards.

Despite the Democrat Party’s best efforts to vilify this president, the American people have seen enough. The impeachment show has jumped the shark, and it’s rapidly turning into a parody of itself.
