Fighting Against the Tide Of History

“It is almost a law of history that the same wealth that generates a civilization announces its decay, for wealth produces ease as well as art. It softens a people to the ways of luxury and peace, and invites invasion from stronger arms and hungrier mouths.” (Will Durant, Our Oriental Heritage)

We have all been pleasantly surprised and gleeful at many of the accomplishments of the first two-plus months of the Trump administration. A lot of victories. Democrats and the Left are back on their heels, using every device from violence to unconstitutional judicial activism to try to hold off the Trumpian “revolution.” There is hope we might truly “Make America Great Again,” though much remains to be done.

But then, Wisconsin got splashed in our faces. Yes, the voters there opted for photo IDs in voting; but, amazingly, 37% were opposed to it. But the big cheese (pardon the pun) was the Supreme Court election between far-left Susan Crawford and Trump-endorsed Brad Schimel, and that wasn’t even close.

Two months do not history make, folks. Some low-intelligence people occasionally do intelligent things, and Wisconsin voters gave their state to Mr. Trump last November (some low-intelligence people NEVER do intelligent things). But if a person is basically of low-intelligence, if that is his nature, even though he might sporadically do something intelligent, he will always regress to his nature and return to doing mostly low-intelligent things. The Wisconsin Supreme Court election was low-intelligence voters reverting to form.

Such raises some questions in my mind. Was the election of Donald Trump (in Wisconsin and around the nation) mostly a country voting FOR Mr. Trump, or AGAINST Biden/Harris failures and incompetence? Did the country, as a whole, learn anything from 2021-24?

And, another question: Was Mr. Trump’s election an anomaly in America’s current historical cycle?

I’ve been fearful of America’s digressive trend for many years now, mainly because of the immoral decadence that has increasingly become the moral “zeitgeist” of the nation. If there is one thing history absolutely, unfailingly teaches, it is that you do not spit in God’s face repeatedly and survive for long. He eventually gets tired of wiping the spittle away, and His vengeance is never pretty. The Durant quote at the beginning of this article is instructive for America: we have become the richest nation in the world, and, like every other previous such empire, we want to enjoy that wealth. Ease and luxury do not often produce strength and heroism, and the latter two commodities have been on the wane in the United States for quite some time. Mr. Trump is trying to turn America around, to “Make America Great Again.” He might be—he IS—fighting against the tide of history.

God, through Moses, supports Mr. Durant’s analysis: “When I have brought them to the land flowing with milk and honey…and they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them…[and] many evils and troubles [will] come upon them.” (Deuteronomy 31:20-21). November 5, 2024, in Wisconsin, devolved into Tuesday’s Supreme Court election. How can anyone who knows and understands history be surprised?

The Left has controlled America’s education system, its media and communication, its moral bearings, yeah, its Deep State government for most of the past two generations. And those two generations have been indoctrinated into the Left’s worldview and zeitgeist. That zeitgeist is so powerful that 75 million Americans voted, this past November, for the stupidest, most incompetent, most degenerate and frightening presidential candidate in the country’s history. Some low-intelligence people ALWAYS do low-intelligent things. In Wisconsin and other such marginal states, enough of such voters swung for Mr. Trump in November to give him victory. But they reverted to form Tuesday. Next year’s mid-term elections, when Kamala Harris isn’t on the ballot, are going to be very instructive for American history, and very critical.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” (Historian Alexander Fraser Tytler)

It is worthwhile to note that history can only tell us what HAS happened, it cannot tell us what WILL happen in the future. No human being knows for certain what the coming years will hold. History is indeed against America, but that is not the final verdict. Only the future holds that verdict.

If we are wise, if we learn from the mistakes of the past, if we listen to Will Durant, Moses, Sir Tytler, we CAN avoid the destruction previous generations have suffered, and truly “Make America Great Again.” Mr. Trump is fighting desperately against a very, very strong tide, a fight nobody in human history has ever won before, except very briefly and on limited terms. The hungrier mouths, the barbarians, are at the gates, drooling at America’s wealth, ease, and luxury, and Joe Biden, one of the stupidest human beings ever to walk on this planet, and the Democratic Party, one of the most evil institutions to ever exist, let them freely into the country. Open your daughter’s bedroom door and invite the rapist in. That’s the Left.

And the Left, of course, in its complete and utter moral depravity, ignorance of history, and incredible stupidity is battling as hard as it can to drag America down the road Durant, Moses, Tytler, and frankly, countless other wise men of the past have warned us about. We are, my good, decent, patriotic American friends, fighting against the tide of history. But it’s a fight in which we must never surrender.
