Schappert is not just a badass in real life, but also on TV. He appears on the Discovery Channel’s survival game show Dude, You’re Screwed, Shark Attack Survival Guard during the infamous Shark Week, and was the host of the History Channel’s Warriors with Terry Schappert. He’s also a frequent guest on Red Eye with Tom Shillue on Fox News andKennedy on Fox Business.

Schappert began his military career over 20 years ago with the 82nd Airborne Division. After completing Ranger school, he served in the Persian Gulf War and then became a Green Beret and Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces. He’s the coauthor of A Guide to Improvised Weaponry: How to Protect Yourself with WHATEVER You've Got.He’s fluent in several languages and an expert in martial arts, small arms and demolition. He’s also a paramedic trained in combat medicine.
Basically, Schappert could mess us all up, but put us back together again. It’s also likely that it will be filmed and broadcast to millions.

1. What's your favorite movie line and who would you like to say it to?
From Braveheart - "You've come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight?"
I'd like to say that line to a big portion of America that is sitting on its ass while everything they care about is being taken away. It would be cool to deliver it from horseback while wearing war paint, but that’s probably asking for too much...
2. Tell me about your favorite teacher and how he or she influenced your life.
My anthropology professor at UNCW, Dr. Dale McCall. He taught me to think critically and seriously, but with an open mind and a sense of humor. He is one of the kindest and smartest men I've ever known.
3. What's your best survival tip?

Do a little research about where you will be – food, water, medical infrastructure, etc. And carry a lighter. A little bit of prep will save your butt. And never lay down and quit. Never.
4. What canceled show would you put back on the air?
Warriors with Terry Schappert on History Channel, of course!
5. What's your current “guilty pleasure” television show?
I don't actually have one. Not for some snobby reason, I just don't watch much TV except news.
6. What’s the best present you ever received as a child?
I was in the hospital over Christmas when I was a little boy with really bad pneumonia, and my Grandpa brought me the GI Joe training center and set it up in my hospital room. I would come outside of my boy-in-the plastic-bubble oxygen tent and play with it for a few minutes, then go back in. My Grandpa Schappert died when I was young, and I wish he had been around longer.
7. What’s the best present you ever gave?
I sent a pair of dirty, bloody assault gloves that I had worn for months to my wife from Iraq for her birthday to remind her of me. It was all I had to give. I wanted her to be connected to me while I was in combat.
8. What advice do you remember your mother or father giving you? Did you take it?
Always fight a bully back. Good advice.
9. Along with yourself, who would be on the perfect Red Eye with Tom Shillue panel?
I've met so many great people on Red Eye, seriously. I'd be happy to be back on with any of them. I think you and I, Lisa need to do an appearance together. That would be a good one. [I agree! –LD]
10. What books did you read this summer?

Carnage and Culture by Victor Davis Hanson - anything by him is a book worth reading. He's a national treasure, in my opinion. Also, I reread, The Man Who Never Missed by Steve Perry. It's the first book in The Matador Trilogy. Science Fiction that was written in the eighties, I think it still holds up. Perry writes some pretty good sex scenes as well.
11. What would you like tomorrow's headline to say?
"Pope Francis hammers U.S. Congress for late term abortion support"
12. Tell me about the moment you decided to become more vocal about your political beliefs.
When I was an active duty Special Forces guy in the nineties, I didn't give a damn about politics. Only after 9/11 and my return to the military did I realize just how important and intertwined all of it is. You CANNOT separate the two. Our elected officials decide when and how to use the military. Our citizens elect these officials. Therefore, we work for the citizenry. Any disconnect, and we got problems. Big ones.
