Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from being President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general appointee. Trump had a very short message, with very few capital letters, saying Gaetz had dropped because he didn't want to be a distraction. Trump also said he would be looking forward to great things from him. Are you? Are you really looking forward to great things from him? I don't know. Look, this was never going to work. Gaetz was never going to get the votes of Senators Murkowski, Collins, or McConnell. One more Republican and it would have been a no. They likely took Trump aside and said this wasn't going to happen and he'd spend all of his political capital trying to make it happen, so he dropped it. And I have to say, I respect it. It was cold, ruthless, and showed political acumen. Gaetz was the proverbial sacrificial lamb.
