The Motivation to Disarm Millions of Americans Should Be Met with Extreme Skepticism

“For so many of you at home, I want to be very clear: This is not about taking away anyone’s guns,” President Joe Biden said during a primetime address from the White House this week.

Biden, a man who has been protected by men with guns for decades, projected those words right before advocating for a ban on semi-automatic firearms — which are lawfully owned by tens-of-millions of Americans.

"We need to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. These are rational, commonsense measures," he continued, stressing the need to “do something.” “Here's what it all means, it all means this. We should reinstate the assault weapons ban, high capacity magazines that we passed in 1994.”

Banning semi-automatic rifles used by criminals fewer times for murder each year than fists, feet, hammers and clubs, yet owned by tens-of-millions of lawful Americans, is not common sense. It's irrational "do something" dishonesty and an infringement on constitutional rights.

To nobody’s surprise, this is a sentiment shared by Democrats on Capitol Hill, and they’re working to codify Biden’s statement into law.

“Spare me the bullsh*t about constitutional rights,” Democratic Congressman David Cicilline yelled during a gun control hearing this week.

But constitutional rights matter, especially in times of emergency, tragedy and even in the aftermath of horrific crime. Given the efforts of the left to exploit crises for political gain and to bolster government power, it is times like these when defending the Second Amendment is most essential.

When asked in media interviews to define the term “assault rifle,” leftists pushing for gun bans won’t issue a specific or clear definition. This isn’t because they can’t find a narrow definition, but because they want to use the term to cover as many firearms as possible in their efforts to ban them. It’s why President Biden brought up banning 9mm handguns on the South Lawn of the White House.

The motivation to disarm millions of Americans exercising their constitutional rights should be met with extreme skepticism and suspicion about intentions. During the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, Democrats were in favor of shipping their fellow and “unvaccinated” Americans off to prison. During the summer of 2020, they cheered when Black Lives Matter activists burned American cities and jumped onboard with efforts to defund the police. Vice President Kamala Harris urged supporters to send money to a bail fund that bounced murderers and rapists back onto the streets from incarceration. President Joe Biden’s current Department of Justice classified parents speaking at school board meetings as domestic terrorists worthy of federal surveillance.

The politicians and government officials advocating for Second Amendment restrictions on Americans who aren’t committing crimes are people who cannot be trusted. They’ve proven capable of putting Americans into dangerous situations with no recourse. They’ve done so while using the full force of the federal government to punish their political enemies and those they believe have committed simple thought crimes in opposition to the "proper" narrative. The Second Amendment was ratified specifically to guard against this kind of tyranny and government overreach. The time to defend it is now.
