There is new outrage this week after Black Lives Matter came out in defense of Cuba's communist government as it cracks down on pro-American dissidents crying out for freedom.
"Black Lives Matter condemns the U.S. federal government's inhumane treatment of Cubans, and urges it to immediately lift the economic embargo. This cruel and inhumane policy, instituted with the explicit intention of destabilizing the country and undermining Cubans' right to choose their own government, is at the heart of Cuba's current crisis. Since 1962, the United States has forced pain and suffering on the people of Cuba by cutting off food, medicine and supplies, costing the tiny island nation an estimated $130 billion," BLM released in a statement.
"The people of Cuba are being punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination. United States leaders have tried to crush this Revolution for decades. Instead of international amity, respect, and goodwill, the U.S. government has only instigated suffering for the country's 11 million people - of which 4 million are Black and Brown," the statement continues. "Cuba has historically demonstrated solidarity with oppressed peoples of Africa descent, from protecting Black revolutionaries like Assata Shakur through granting her asylum, to supporting Black Liberation struggles in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and South Africa."
The statement was right on brand: pro-communist, anti-American, pro-cop killer and factually incorrect.
The U.S. embargo on Cuba does not prevent humanitarian aid from reaching the country. It does prevent the enrichment of the communist regime and its tyrannical government leaders. Further, BLM's claims about the Cuban regime's "solidarity with oppressed peoples of Africa descent" are factually inaccurate.

The Cuban government is deeply racist and marginalizes the Black population in the country by limiting economic opportunity and access to bank accounts. When Fidel Castro came to power many decades ago, he eliminated Black social clubs and made it clear that the revolution would not tolerate complaints of racial discrimination or injustice. Assata Shakur, also known as Joanne Chesimard, was harbored in Cuba for years after murdering New Jersey State Trooper Werner Forester and escaping prison. The Castro regime protected Shakur because she was rabidly anti-American, not because communist government officials believed in racial equality.
BLM's latest statement is brazen but far from out of the ordinary.
"Rest in power #FidelCastro," BLM tweeted in 2016 to mark the death of Fidel Castro.
The organization's leaders, who proudly state they are trained Marxists, have a goal of tearing down the country and enriching themselves along the way. Anyone who has been paying attention to the movement, which started in 2013, is familiar with their tactics. Yet, Democratic politicians and weak corporate leaders have appeased them, to the detriment of local communities and their brands.
Democrats who have fully embraced the movement should be held accountable and asked if they too support Cuba's tyrannical style of government, which BLM plans to bring to the United States. We know socialist presidential candidate and Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders is a big fan of the Castro regime's "literacy program." Early on in 2015, the DNC embraced the group in its official election platform.
"The DNC joins with Americans across the country in affirming 'Black lives matter' and the 'say her name' efforts to make visible the pain of our fellow and sister Americans as they condemn extrajudicial killings of unarmed African American men, women and children," a resolution stated, without evidence to back up claims of "extrajudicial killings" of "unarmed" Black people.
As the Cuban regime went door-to-door this week arresting and executing political dissidents, it took the White House five days before President Joe Biden officially denounced the regime and communism as a "universally failed system."
The Left, corporate America and the Democratic Party have fully embraced and promoted Black Lives Matter. The support for the communist, Marxist organization raises serious questions about where the Democratic Party plans to take America and what their intentions are for the future.
