Fifty to 100 years from now, will historians be able to piece together how half of the United States, namely the political left, fell prey to mass insanity? Throughout history, subgroups within larger populations have exhibited delusional behavior. In the early 1930s, as a classic example, considerable numbers of Germans, under the sway of Adolf Hitler, believed that they were Earth’s natural leaders. Thus they sought to take over Europe and eventually the world. After all, wasn’t this their destiny?
In present-day America, the left is exhibiting delusions of righteousness. They are dragging all those from the center to the left with them by one method or another, including shaming, shunning, coercion, canceling, extortion, and even violence. How mad has the left gone? It would take volumes to describe their lunacy in detail. Over several hundred words, however, I'll do my best.
The now questionable six-month COVID-19 lockdown, and the left's willingness to foment – or overlook – street violence fuels the perception that they are enamored with achieving total authority and imposing their will, forevermore, on everyone.
Issues to Contemplate
Leftists believe that children may choose their gender and it is appropriate to teach children that more than 50 genders exist. To the left, mathematics, the sciences, and other core academic disciplines must be taught to accommodate 'politically diverse' points of view, and entire college curricula be redesigned because most teachings and most works of literature reflect the sordid views of white males.
Should all student loan debt be forgiven? Are you fine with colleges holding separate graduation exercises and celebrations for different ethnic minorities? Are you upset when conservative speakers on campus are disrupted from speaking or banned altogether from campus? Should colleges set up safe spaces? Curiously, can a university promise students an unbiased education when 97 percent of college professors' political donations go to Democrats? The left is on board with all of the above.

In leftist land, late trimester abortion is acceptable and, after a baby is born, it is the right of the mother and the doctor to choose whether or not that person will continue to live. Medicare must be provided for all, never mind how to pay for it. All Democrat presidential contenders, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, stated on television that immigrants (who flout U.S immigration policy) should be given free healthcare the moment they cross the border. What will historians make of that?
The left demands open borders and immediate acceptance of anyone who wants to come here. ‘Sanctuary cities’ are a great idea to the left, and once they are totally in control, all of the U.S. will be a ‘sanctuary.’
A More Civil Society?
To the left, Marxist ideology makes perfect sense and is their raison d'être. When newspaper headlines scream about police brutality, or gun violence (but never the left’s own violence), members of the left wring their hands over the issue. They are quick to call others racist and seek to cancel anyone, for any transgression, even from 35 years ago, that they deem to be unacceptable.
To the left, the goals and violent tactics of Antifa are appropriate, but if Antifa is proud of what they stand for and forthright in their actions, why do they wear ski masks? Most curiously, why do they often go after the most vulnerable people they can find in any gathering? How will future historians regard Antifa?
The left's embrace of mass insanity grows more absurd by the week. The left cares little about the magnitude and ramifications of many of their own political and social views. Quite simply, their agenda is to destroy American civilization ASAP, with little or no concern about what happens after that.
One Generation From Extinction
As Ronald Reagan so eloquently noted, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in the United States where men [and women] were free."
Future historians, if they are truly historians, and have any objectivity, might have an exceedingly difficult time determining the motives and underlying rationale of today's left. Given that we make it through this tumultuous time, future historians might wonder why so many people at least leaned left, and how the situation arose in the first place.
