I’m Running for Congress in Wyoming Because Liz Cheney Has Betrayed us

The people of Wyoming deserve leaders who reflect their views and values. As a fourth generation Wyomingite who learned the importance of hard work, integrity, and loyalty on my family’s ranch near Fort Laramie, I know what’s in the heart of our great state. And I also know that our current representative in Congress, Liz Cheney, has turned her back on us in favor of her own personal war with former President Donald Trump. For these reasons, and many more, I have declared my candidacy and am challenging Cheney in the 2022 Republican primary for Wyoming’s lone House seat.

Over my career as an attorney, I have fought to protect Wyoming against runaway government, to protect property rights, and to protect water rights.  Having defeated the Clinton administration in a battle over access to forest lands involving the illegal Roadless Rule, I was once referred to as one of the “fiercest and most effective opponents” that administration ever had. And I’ve taken on the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to oppose mandates and usurpation of the rights of farmers and ranchers. These are enormous issues that Wyomingites know well, and they know that I have been their champion.

Just like I spent countless hours and all of my energy fighting federal agencies in court, I will fight just as hard for Wyoming in Congress. We need a leader who will tirelessly oppose the disastrous policies of President Joe Biden, and I will go to Washington to cut wasteful spending, end the regulatory state, demand election integrity reforms, and eliminate harmful policies like Critical Race Theory.

Like most people in our state, I previously supported Cheney when she ran for office and even agreed to introduce her at our state Republican convention five years ago. But when she launched her crusade against President Trump, she revealed herself to be completely different from the person we sent to Washington, D.C. as our elected representative. When she embraced Nancy Pelosi’s partisan impeachment of Trump, she betrayed our nation, she betrayed Wyoming, and she betrayed me.

When Cheney voted to impeach Trump, it was the culmination of behavior that had begun well before Election Day 2020. For example, she heartily joined in the liberal assaults on Trump over a New York Times story that used anonymous sourcing to allege that Russia was paying bounties to militants for attacking our soldiers in Afghanistan. We now know that the Times story was baseless, but we learned that Cheney’s instinct was to attack Trump first and care about the truth and her constituents’ concerns second.

President Trump won Wyoming by larger margins than in any other state, going from 68 percent in 2016 to 70 percent in 2020, because his policies were the best for our state.  I am grateful and proud to have received his endorsement in this race, and I will work hard every day to prove that I am worthy of that support and the votes of every citizen of Wyoming. Liz Cheney, in contrast, disregarded the sentiments of the very same people who elected her when she decided to cast her lot with Pelosi and the Democrats.

Because of her anti-Trump histrionics, Cheney became a darling of the corporate media and they used her as a weapon in their arsenal leading up to the 2020 election. As a result, she enabled the Biden administration and bears responsibility for the various calamities he has caused.

Every time Wyomingites see President Biden fail us and harm the interests of our nation and our state, they have Liz Cheney to thank. There’s so much: the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, the crisis at the southern border, the resurgent coronavirus pandemic, the sagging economy. And then there’s Biden’s all-out assault on our energy industry, which we count on for thousands of good jobs for our families and revenue for our schools. Biden has been a disaster for Wyoming and Liz Cheney paved his way.

I have fought for and defended the people of Wyoming for all of my adult life. The hardworking men and women of Wyoming deserve a leader who shares their views and will not bow down to the pressures of the liberal left as soon as the road gets a little rough.

Liz Cheney says that she regrets voting for President Trump in 2020. Well, that’s quite a coincidence, because most Wyomingites now say the same thing about her. Thankfully, there is now an alternative, and I will spend the next year asking our citizens for their support.
