Why the US Government Is the World's Worst

Planet Earth is plagued with terrible governments, most notably those of Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. It is not difficult to argue that one of these is the world’s worst. My vote, however, goes to the current US government for this reason: When the most powerful and influential country in the world has a dysfunctional government like the one run by Joe Biden, the equilibrium of the entire world is threatened.

We have the most powerful economic engine and the most lethal military machine. Such a colossus should demand a government of equivalent power and capability. No such luck. What we have instead is a pathetic old man sitting at the controls. Not even counting Joe’s obvious cognitive and physical decline, every one of his actions as president has set us on a course of economic and social ruin.

Just before the 2020 election, I wrote the following: “If Biden wins, your lifestyle will fall to pieces, your economic security will collapse, your right to speak freely will cease to exist, unaccountable government bureaucrats will control your decisions, and you will live in constant fear of violence.” Sorry to gloat, but I was right.

“It is virtually impossible to identify a realm in which Democrats are wreaking anything but havoc, division and devastation,” said Deroy Murdock in the New York Post. You name the subject: the border, crime, inflation, energy, education, race relations, and growth of the bureaucracy. All of them have been impacted negatively since Biden took office.

Here is how Biden’s assault on America is paying off:

• Increased taxation

• Staggering inflation

• Astronomical gas, heating, and food prices

• Out-of-control crime statistics

• Economic regression

• Mounting indebtedness

• Growth of the Washington bureaucracy

• Capitulation to foreign energy

• Social disintegration via race baiting

• Weaponization of the DOJ, FBI, and IRS against Biden’s political opponents

• Forced redistribution of income

• Erosion of military effectiveness

• An avalanche of illegal immigration with resulting crime, disease, and welfare costs

Perhaps the worst example of Biden’s ineptitude is reflected in what I have referred to as the “Team of Fools” that occupy critical positions in his administration. (“Team of Fools: Biden’s Cabinet Picks Prove He is Unfit to Lead,” American Thinker, June 15, 2022)

Just look at this group of misfits:

• Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security: In direct contradiction to his statements and his sworn duty to uphold the law, Mayorkas deliberately has allowed millions to cross our southern border illegally. Under Mayorkas, deaths due to drug overdoses from imported fentanyl topped 100,000 for the first time ever. It is difficult to tell if he is a consummate liar or just plain delusional.

• Janet Yellen, Treasury: “I can’t think of a more inept Treasury Secretary over the past 30 years,” said journalist and media host Charlie Gasparino. “If you’re mad about the current state of the economy,” said Tucker Carlson, “Janet Yellin is the first person you should blame.”

• Pete Buttigieg, Transportation: In the midst of a massive supply-chain breakdown, what did Buttigieg do about it? He took a months-long parental leave after adopting twins with his “husband.” Buttigieg attempted to defend his performance by saying, “We’re doing a lot.” He should have stayed out on paternity leave. The country would be better off.

• Merrick Garland, Attorney General: Biden’s henchman for the administration’s 1984 agenda. Garland’s intention appears to be the use of law enforcement and military force to arrest, imprison, and otherwise crush anyone who leads opposition to Joe Biden’s government. For example, Garland has made it clear that parents protesting the woke indoctrination of their children are domestic terrorists. He has directed the FBI and US attorney offices to crack down on these parents by characterizing their protests, which are completely legal, as crimes.

• Jennifer Granholm, Energy: “Granholm’s credentials for the job [of Energy Secretary],” said Liz Peek on Fox News, “appear to be that she has swallowed Biden’s climate agenda hook, line, and sinker, and especially his affection for electric vehicles.” Our way of life is dependent on fossil fuels. There is no viable alternative, nor will one exist in the foreseeable future. Biden’s assault on the fossil fuel industry, if unchecked, will completely destroy the US economy.

• Lloyd Austin, Defense: Oversaw the most embarrassing military event in American history—the withdrawal from Afghanistan—and is replacing combat readiness with the destructive woke agenda. As China challenges our military superiority, we cannot afford to play this game.

• Karine Jean-Pierre, Press: "If press secretaries reflect an administration,” writes Andrea Widburg at American Thinker, “Biden has just the right person in Jean-Pierre. She's driven by identity politics and otherwise knows nothing." She is a total embarrassment every time she opens her mouth.

• And the list goes on and on.

“Every single thing this man and his administration touch they absolutely destroy,” said Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “Something has to be done to stop the craziness that is going on in Washington.” The media has landed in the pocket of the Democrat Party, so we can’t depend on them to do anything about it. Gullible voters continue to support the insupportable. MSNBC features a gallery of voters who all parrot the same refrain: Biden is doing a great job. What are they smoking?

The one thing I try not to forget is that the leftists who want to destroy the US are a minority. “Our country is being run by a deranged group of extremists,” said Donald Trump. “But no matter how big or powerful these corrupt radicals may be, you must never forget this nation does not belong to them. This nation belongs to you.” Have we forgotten, or is there light at the end of the tunnel?
