In a total coincidence, I thought of writing a follow-up column about how artificial intelligence is progressing, and it just so happened that it would run on the one-year anniversary of my first column on the subject. Life, real life, if funny that way. Artificial life isn’t funny at all – think of it as the Stephen Colbert of comedy.
That being said since it has been a year, I figured I’d check back and see how the whole “Skynet is going to kill us all” thing was going. Last year, it left something to be desired. With thousands of nerds not kissing thousands of girls for another 365 days, had it gotten any better? You decide.
What follows is what Chat GPT came up with when given the simple command: Write a column in the style of Derek Hunter.
Title: The Unhinged Left: Suffering from Selective Outrage Syndrome
In the circus of modern American politics, it seems there's never a shortage of performers ready to take the stage and showcase their latest act of outrage. From the melodramatic to the downright absurd, the Left has mastered the art of manufactured indignation. But beneath the surface of their performative wokeness lies a troubling pattern of selective outrage that reveals more about their agenda than they'd care to admit.

Take, for instance, their response to recent events in the realm of cancel culture. When a conservative speaker is de-platformed or a dissenting voice is silenced, the Left remains conspicuously silent, hiding behind the guise of "tolerance" while secretly applauding the suppression of opposing viewpoints. Yet, when a celebrity makes a politically incorrect remark, or a company supports a cause deemed unsavory by the progressive elite, all hell breaks loose.
It's this glaring double standard that exposes the true nature of the Left's outrage machine. Their moral compass seems to spin wildly depending on who the offender is and how the political winds blow. But make no mistake: their outrage is not rooted in principle but in power. It's a tool wielded to crush dissent and impose their ideological hegemony on society.
But perhaps nowhere is the Left's hypocrisy more evident than in their selective outrage over acts of violence. When a tragedy occurs that fits their narrative – say, a mass shooting carried out by a white supremacist – they're quick to pounce, weaponizing the tragedy to push for stricter gun control laws and demonize their political opponents. Yet, when violence erupts in the name of their own causes – whether it's Antifa thugs assaulting innocent bystanders or BLM extremists torching businesses – they're strangely silent, or worse, they justify and even glorify the violence as a form of "resistance."
This blatant hypocrisy is not only intellectually dishonest but also dangerous. By cherry-picking which injustices to condemn and which to ignore, the Left undermines the very values they claim to champion: equality, justice, and freedom. Their selective outrage erodes public trust, deepens political polarization, and sows the seeds of division in our society.
So, what's the solution to this epidemic of selective outrage? It starts with holding the Left accountable for their hypocrisy and demanding consistency in their principles. We must call out their double standards whenever they rear their ugly heads and refuse to let them dictate the terms of the debate. Only then can we hope to reclaim the moral high ground and build a more just and equitable society for all?
That’s the end of it. Personally, I think I’m a little funnier than not being funny at all and much better looking than something that doesn’t exist.
So, while artificial intelligence has made advances and can easily belch out the basics of a news story, just not analysis or humor. All those so-called journalists worried about AI replacing them have reason to worry. Not because AI is so good at what they do but because they are so bad at it.
Liberal reporters are terrible at conveying the basics of an event, feeling a compulsion to insert their opinions and liberal spin. AI doesn’t do that unless asked. It can do what they are supposed to do with ease and without unionizing or embarrassing the employer or institution. Human journalists can’t help but do those things.
AI may start producing more and more news stories, but it isn’t quite ready for much else unless the producers being replaced are wildly unoriginal or completely lazy. In other words, columnists with the ethics and morals of “journalists.” We’ll see what happens next year.
