When one evil empire falls, another will inevitably rise to fill its place.

I have worked in the American conservative movement for decades, and for part of that time I had the immense privilege to work for---and to know---Ronald Reagan. I had a front row seat to Reagan’s historic efforts to win the Cold War, and we remember well the day the Evil Empire that was the Soviet Union collapsed thanks to Reagan and like-minded world leader like Pop John Paul II and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Reagan won the Cold War through action, the power of the pulpit, strength of character, and many hours of negotiating, cutting deals, and his unshakeable belief in American ideals. He saw the Soviets for the evil threat they were and did something about it.

Forty years after Reagan first entered the White House, a new empire has risen to take the place of the Soviet Union, that being the brutal oligarchy of Communist China. Like the Soviets before them, the Chinese are working to spread their nefarious and evil influence around the globe and actively undermine Western democracies.

And like the Soviets, China is carrying out unthinkable atrocities against humanity that it barely tries to hide on the world stage.

The Chinese government has imprisoned more than one million Uighurs - members of a Turkic speaking ethnic group native to the region of Xinjiang - in so-called “reeducation camps” since 2017. According to outside studies, including one conducted by Congress, these are little more than modern-day concentration camps that use the Uighurs as chattel for slave labor for the benefit of the corrupt People’s Republic.

Worse still, the evidence strongly suggests that several large American brands, including Nike, Apple, Sony, and Adidas, utilize factories in China where Uighurs are used as slaves. For all their talk of supporting human rights, Nike and Coca-Cola lobbied against a bill in Congress last year targeting this very practice by the Chinese.

But most horrifying of all, survivors tell of brutal rape, torture, and forced sterilization inside these camps.

President Reagan would not have stood for the Chinese getting away with murder in broad daylight, nor would he have stood for China’s efforts to spread their economic and financial reach into every corner of the globe. He would not have meekly protested China’s actions while sitting on his hands, but would have taken those hands and worked to make things right. We were proud when Reagan was president. Now, we half to suffer with this yellow bellied scaredy cat and intellectual lightweight, Joe Biden.

The United States needs to take the lead now, as it once did against the Soviets, to strip away any legitimacy the Chinese regime claims to have.

Unfortunately, our current president Joe Biden is a weakling, bowing down and genuflecting to his masters in Beijing. He is a coward and an embarrassment. Think for a moment, of the courage of Washington, Lincoln, FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan and now we are saddled with this frightened lightweight? Winston Churchill once said of all the human qualities, bravery was the most important because it guaranteed all the other qualities. Aristotle said much the same thing. This is a foreign concept to Biden. You can’t plagiarize courage.

We can start by boycotting the Winter Olympics scheduled to be held in Beijing in 2022. And not a half-baked diplomatic boycott: not a single American athlete should set foot in Beijing next year. Contrary to what some people say, America still is the leader of the free world. Even if we are the only ones absent, it will still be a major blow to Chinese prestige. We could organize competing Olympics.

On the home front, Congress needs to come down hard - very hard - on Nike, Apple, and other companies that are profiting from Uighur labor.

I’m conservative, and most of the time I would oppose the government sticking its nose into private enterprise. But when a moral issue such as this one is at stake, I don’t care how badly government interference hurts profits. This is not about returns paying off: this is a matter of human decency, a matter of holding accountable companies whose obsession with breaking into Chinese markets and Chinese money has blinded them to atrocities that would give Joseph Stalin a run for his money.

Americans need to know what is happening in China.

They need to understand that many of the shoes they buy, the shirts they wear, and the phones they use were probably made by enslaved Uighurs whose only crime is speaking a different language and practicing a different religion. The communists who run Beijing are casually exterminating Uighurs purely based on racism, something the woke pretenders who run Nike and Apple need to acknowledge the next time they preach to the rest of us peasants about right and wrong.

Moreover, our current leadership needs to grow a spine and treat China as the threat it is.

China is the number one adversary to American interests, and it’s time Joe Biden treated it as such. He needs to stop pretending Beijing had nothing to do with the origin of the coronavirus and pull the United States out of the Winter Olympics next year. Biden needs to stop kowtowing to Leftist dreams that pit Americans against one another and unite people against the outward threat China poses.

In short, Biden needs to behave like a president for once and not a nursing home resident. Saw what you will about Donald Trump, at least he lead America courageously.

America is still that shining city on a hill, and it was our example that helped bring an evil empire to its knees. As someone who witnessed that miracle firsthand, I believe it’s possible to do so again.
