The Democrats, through their antics during President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress, once again show that they are not a serious party.
When 300 Christian girls were kidnapped by Islamic terrorists in Nigeria, there was general disgust. I recall seeing a picture of Michelle Obama, then first lady, looking very somber while holding a piece of paper with the Twitter hashtag, #BringBackOurGirls. I thought about the image and realized how shamelessly meaningless her efforts were. By simply holding the sign and looking sad, she had—in her mind—done something to help bring the unfortunate girls home. Many others like her on the left substitute theater for action, pronouncements for results.
When I first came to Israel in 1992, I had multiple culture shocks. The language, the lifestyle, milk in a plastic bag, the horrible toilet paper—there were lots of changes, all coming at once. Then there was that strain of Salmonella in the chickens that took my body quite some time to get used to. But one thing that struck me was that compared to the U.S. (pre-9/11) at the time, Israel had no choice but to be far more serious. Many parents had kids in the army. Unfortunate reports on the news described terror attacks. My wife’s family found out that our son and I had been wounded when they saw me on TV getting out of the first ambulance to arrive at Hadassah Hospital. One could be on a bus that could not move because the local bomb squad was looking over a bag left at the bus station. Every public building had an armed guard and there were rifle-toting soldiers everywhere you went. Israel, under threat from the Palestinians and others, did not have the luxury of being frivolous.
The Democrats, not satisfied with this boring world, live in an alternative universe. It is the only explanation as to why Democratic women wore pink to the address—the color associated with women and femininity—only a day after voting to let guys compete and win women’s sports competitions. They held up disapproving signs during Donald Trump’s speech and looked pathetic. Their lack of seriousness was on display for the world to see and they as a party were oblivious to their sophomoric behavior. The news later came out that Joe Biden left the two astronauts stranded in space rather than give Elon Musk the satisfaction of bringing them home.
Let’s look at the protesters on American college campuses. They dress up with keffiyehs, hold signs demanding the mass murder of Jews, and say empty phrases. It's an advanced kindergarten: dress up, dance and sing! Many do not know from which river and to what sea. They are oblivious to Hamas’ brutality, which would be extended to them should they find themselves in Rafah or Jabaliyah. Everything on the left is play-acting. Fly to and from Davos on a private plane and give a big lecture there about the evils of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide. The left is bored and does not like a lot of things: Jews, Israel, Donald Trump and his supporters, the U.S., European history and democracy, and of course, Jews again. Sixty percent of Democrats replied to a poll that they had an unfavorable view of Israel.
And as goes the party so goes its leaders. Nancy Pelosi had a temper tantrum and very publicly tore up Donald Trump’s 2020 SOTU speech. Joe Biden often threatened to beat people up or compete with them for push-ups. The same Michelle Obama stated that after her husband became the Democratic presidential nominee, it was the first time in her life that she felt proud to be an American. Pete Buttigieg had the thrill of “chest feeding” while dozens of ships piled up outside of LA’s port. AOC could go to a $30,000 a person ball and wear a “Tax the Rich” dress. The mayor of LA was on a junket to Ghana as part of her city burned to the ground. There is a lack of intellectual heft and seriousness in the actions on the left. For them, it’s all one big game and they play to win—and not to make America or the West better.
Donald Trump, certainly since his brush with death, has shown a seriousness that was lacking earlier in his life. We no longer hear about “I’m a really rich guy” or “I’m always surrounded by beautiful women.” Instead, we see a chief executive who seems to work around the clock. Ditto for Elon Musk. When I see Tom Homan on TV, threatening to arrest anyone who gets in his way, I crawl under the table. Bobby Kennedy, Jr., Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and others in the administration don’t have time for play-acting. They are approaching their work as if they are saving America—which they are. The massive amounts of fraud and waste, the lowering of U.S. standing in the world, and endless hours wasted on who can use which bathroom were the products of our joker leaders. The new administration has a lot of work to do to clean things up.
People who do not have to be serious generally are not. Young children whose parents provide everything or trust fund kids whose lives are provided for don’t need to be serious. The person who needs to put food on the table every day or stand ready to turn the keys to America’s nuclear missiles do not have such a luxury. The growth of an unserious left is a product of the fabulous wealth and security of the U.S. When one does not have to worry about Indians and wild animals or Russian nuclear bombs or starvation, he may just decide that he has the time, resources, and inclination to play-act. Is anyone more fascist in behavior than the supposedly anti-fascist Antifa? The heads of Black Lives Matter bought up property like they were Bill Gates. And speaking of the Microsoft founder, how did he and many others in his sphere find so much time to enjoy the pleasures of Jeffrey Epstein’s island?
When the Democrats could not applaud a boy who has already had numerous surgeries for brain cancer and yearns to be a policeman, it tells you everything you need to know about them. They were having a silent hissy fit that they are not in charge and that everything must always be about them. America is moving on from woke, DEI, trans, being an international sucker, and the play-acting of the left, which has caused so much destruction and pain for the rest of the American people. The left will remain with its trigger warnings, forbidden words, safe spaces and pronouns. They refuse to let go and rejoin the rest of the American people.
